Begin a lifetime of learning and a love of books and reading. Incorporate all of the wonderful teaching tools available to you and your little one. Some books teach you how to teach your baby sign language in a modified version of ASL (American Sign Language) simply because it's easier for babies and toddlers to learn and perform the sign. Make television time learning time

In this day and age television seems to take up so much of our time. Limiting television time is not only wise but when we do take the time for it let's make TV time a worthwhile learning time for both you and baby. There are so many wonderful DVD's and videos out there that can help you teach your little one sign language.

I personally find it so much easier to perform a sign correctly if I can see it being done. So that is where DVD's and videos come into play. I love watching shows like Blue's Clues with my kids cause that way we learn together. I have to praise Steve Burns and Blue's Clues. They are one of only a handful of shows I know of that incorporate sign language into their episodes. Even if only a word or two at a time (which is the best way to learn). Don't overwhelm yourself and your baby by trying to learn too many words at one time. So if that little blue puppy is one of your baby's favorites take advantage of the learning it offers not only in other subjects like colors and shapes but sign language too.

Children learn through play and they love it!

Why not play and learn sign language together. Babies especially love to try new things. There are plenty of learning games and computer software programs to help you learn how to teach your baby sign language as well as games and flashcards so you can both play together. Both my kids just love anything fun on the computer and when they are not learning on the computer they love flipping through  ABC and word flashcards and working on puzzles as well as other types of play.
